Hi everyone,
Are there any Nicholas School alumni that live in Manhattan that would like to join us for an Open House on October 12th in order to speak about their experiences at the Nicholas School and what they are doing now to Prospective students? If you do please let me lknow. Thanks.

Dan Ariely, the New York Times best-selling author of Predictably Irrational, is starting a graduate student group called LifeDesign. This is an incredible opportunity to work with a world-class expert on improving how people approach everyday choices.

We will:
1. Hear from Dan Ariely on how people currently make everyday decisions, and why it turns out poorly
2. Brainstorm innovative ways to design these decisions in ways that address how irrational we are. These could be products, services, iPhone apps, games, etc. Anything goes.
3. Prototype these ideas on campus
4. Pitch the best designs to companies and national media outlets

He seeks 10-15 people to build this group. Graduate students from all departments are welcome to apply. Please email Betsy Holmberg at elizabeth.holmberg@duke.edu to receive the short list of application questions. Responses are due back no later than September 9. Thank you!

2009 Waterfowl Breeding Population and Habitat Survey indicates increase in many duck species.

The Waterfowl Breeding Population and Habitat Survey samples more than two million square miles of waterfowl habitat across the north-central and northeastern United States, south-central, eastern, and northern Canada, and Alaska. The survey estimates the number of ducks on the continent's primary nesting grounds.
